Symptoms of Stress in The Human Brain: Sympathetic Nervous System vesus Limbic System

The sympathetic nervous system in the human brain does not cause any symptoms of stress. The limbic system does.

In an emergency what happens is the increased production of adrenalin moving more oxygen-rich blood to the brain facilitating fight or flight response. More glucose and fatty acids are released into the bloodstream. The senses go keener. Memory goes sharper and to the point. Even the pain threshold increases a lot. A sense of readiness envelopes the body, making it full of energy to take any damn action whatever and whenever needed. Lately it has been studied that even the immune system goes much improved as opposed to the old conception that sympathetic nervous disposition would suspend it for the duration of the state.

Human Brain and Stress

What happens in a state of stress is just the opposite of it. The brain gets less blood than the normal whereas the senses go duller including the bright eyes not only losing their shine but also their focus of vision either far or near. Memory goes blurred and the pain threshold awfully decreases. The sense of readiness is lost and a habit of procrastination takes over. Immune system suffers a great loss at the hands of this stressful disposition that has nothing to do with the sympathetic nervous disposition.
